Engineers working in Alaska are required to seal documents with a specific Alaska engineer embosser seal. Each registrant must follow certain specifications of the seal design in order to properly practice under the Alaskan state law.
While there is no size specified for the Alaska engineer embosser seal, most are two inches in diameter. The person’s name, number, and their profession must be stated on the seal. An example of this would be “Registered Professional Engineer.” The date and time needs be on the seal as well, and can be completed either electronically or manually. Either way, this information must be no farther than two inches away from the seal.
Under Section 08.48.211 of the Alaska Statues, Regulations, and Ethics for Professional Engineers, it states that Alaska does allow an electronic Alaska engineer embosser seal as long as the registered professional keeps the original documents. These documents must be available and easily accessed later in case the need arises. The original document must have a hand signature that is over top of the seal, or software with the capability of removing or modifying the image of the signature in case the document is modified.
On every Alaska engineer embosser seal, letters are required for the following disciplines:
- CE in front of the number for Civil Engineer
- EC in front of the number for Chemical Engineer
- EE in front of the number for Electrical Engineer
- EN in front of the number for Mining Engineering
- EP in front of the number for Petroleum Engineering
- ME in front of the number for Mechanical Discipline
- SE in front of the number for Structural Engineering
The registrant attaches the Alaska engineer embosser seal to documents such as drawings, surveys, plats, and other engineering forms to ensure they were prepared under the direct oversight of the registrant. The registrant may not seal a document after the expiration of a certification for helping another person evade the provision of Sec. 08.48.211.
It is extremely important to seal every document with the appropriate seal. Seals can be purchased through the state or through online websites. Double check the site meets state law requirements to ensure your Alaska engineer embosser seal can be used as soon as it arrives.
