Once you’ve received confirmation of your licensing, you are required to obtain a Mississippi land surveyor seal. You will need to take care to make sure that the seal you purchase meets all the requirements set forth by the Board. What It Should Look Like
The first step in purchasing a Mississippi land surveyor seal is to make sure that it meets the size and setup requirements. Seals must be between 1-5/8” to 2” in diameter, regardless of whether they are embossers or rubber stamps. Both of these formats, as well as digital images, are acceptable, providing that they are all identical.
Your Mississippi land surveyor seal must have a specific setup as well. The stamp is made up of two circles, one inside the other. The circles are arranged so that the licensee’s name will fit in the space between them at the top of the stamp, along with “State of Mississippi” at the bottom. Inside the smaller circle along the top arc, the words “Licensed Professional” is required. Centered in the small circle is the word “Surveyor”. Below that is the license number along with the prefix “PS”.
There is also a dual Mississippi land surveyor seal available for those who are licensed as both engineers and land surveyors. The setup on this seal is nearly identical to the single discipline option. The difference is that the words “Engineer” and “And” appear above the word “Surveyor”. Both license numbers are required as well, with the engineer number including the prefix “PE”.
Proper Use of a Mississippi Land Surveyor Seal
The Mississippi land surveyor seal is required on all specifications, reports, drawings, and other documents that you or someone whom you supervise prepares. The use of the stamp signifies that you have taken the time to verify the content and found that it is entirely accurate to the best of your knowledge. This is an important consideration, as applying your Mississippi land surveyor seal also makes you responsible for the information contained in the documents. This means that if there are any concerns or even damages that arise during the use of those documents, you become responsible for them.
The importance of the use of a Mississippi land surveyor seal cannot be ignored, and this is why it is considered unlawful for you to use your seal on any documents that you or your employees did not create. Applying your Mississippi land surveyor seal in an attempt to hide who completed the documents, or after your license has expired, is grounds for penalization, which can include fines, suspension or even revocation of your license.
